This gin still was hand made in Portugal. Unfortunately it had been dropped which had distorted the top copper bowl and one of the ferrules. An encounter with a dishwasher had affected the calibration of the thermometer. The owner also requested the spout be extended by about 10cm.
The restoration required the construction of two dollies to reshape the bent copper parts. The copper was checked for age hardening before starting the job. A measured amount of persuation was used to return the parts to their original shapes. The thermometer was dismantled and recalibrated before re-assembling. A peice of 1/4″ copper tube was swaged at one end to create a tight fit over the existing spout and then soldered in place. The spout was then trimmed and the outside of the still was polished.
