A Solve-Design-Create sign for the new Ōpōtiki Library – Te Tāhuhu o Te Rangi Maker Space

Manufacturing design: Maurice Moore

Materials:

Mounting board: 18 mm pine plywood 1200 x 900 mm. Inlays cut with CNC router
Text: Clear pine board at three thicknesses – 10, 15 and 18 mm. Cut with CNC router
Lightbulb: 2mm bamboo ply with 2mm silver acrylic backing. Cut with a CO2 laser
Hand and head: 2mm bamboo ply. Cut and engraved with a CO2 laser

The head motif will have 3D printed elements produced in the maker space added at a later date

Board finish: black acrylic wash overcoated with Briwax danish oil
Letters: yellow acrylic overcoated with Briwax danish oil

Mounting screw holders and caps were fabricated using a 3D printer and black PLA filament

Design and machining files were created using LightBurn, Fusion 360 and Vectric VCarve software
