During the eradication of pests, the sprayer accidentally knocked this 30 year old Andrew Livingstone sculpture onto the floor. Gravity did what gravity does and then the floor broke the fall.
Desperate to have the sculpture back in one piece I was asked if I could repair it. I’m no ceramics expert but after advising the owner that a professional repair should be approached, he was happy for me to do the repair. Thank you Kirsten of the UK Repair Shop for all those tutorials. 🙂
The pieces were first cleaned and the broken edges brushed to remove any dust or larger displaced pieces. The sculpture was then dry assembled to check the fit and determine the order pieces needed to be glued. Over a day the pieces were glued and reassembled using epoxy resin, tape and small clamps. After the sculpture was back in one piece, chips were repaired with a mixture of acrylic filler and wood filler to achieve a similar colour to the original clay. Then came the fun part of mixing colours and touching up the surface to blend in the repairs with the original finish.
I was really pleased with the results as the damage truly was invisible even when you were aware of the repaired damage. The client was very happy too.
