I was fascinated by the magnetic wooden blocks created by Tegu (https://tegu.com/pages/our-story) and had to discover how these blocks could be made. So I started experimenting and then built a prototype. So many things to consider, size and properties of the magnets, physical layout, strength of the magnetic force – it needed to be strong enough to hold together but not too strong to cause injury when coming together, and suitable for a child to take apart, magnet orientation….
Eventually I came up with my design which I drew up and created CNC toolpaths in Fusion360. I had some NZ Pohutakawa which needed to be prepared, and then on with the job.
Tegu has a patent on this concept so I can’t share the design I came up with or make any for you, I’m happy to have solved the personal challenge and made something my grandchildren can have fun with.
I called my design MagBlox.
