Over tightening a flange bolt fractured the casting of this old Davies bore pump. The owner thought it was a gonner and given the $1200 bill for a replacement body I took a look. Using high nickel content welding rods it was possible to weld the flange back on the pump. To provide extra strength, a stud was inserted into the flange and welded to the body. The inner wall of the chamber was lined with J-B Weld epoxy to ensure there are no leaks.
Not a pretty job as there is a lot of spatter but the repair was made and the pump is back in operation.
